nice one. thats gunna put a smile on the dial when you sink the teeth into it. certainly i fish worth chewing on and a great size one as well. congrats on puling that one up
I presume you were fishing the bottom were you right at the FAD? Have only been out there twice and never thought to try dropping to the bottom. Will reconsider now.
Well done. Its a good job fisheries abolished the 100cm maximum size limit for Grey Banded Cod. I doubt that one would have survived the trip back to the bottom in 200 odd meters!!
The boats a 5.8 but it depends what year you bought the hull. Quintrex has marketed it as a 5.7, 5.8 and now as a 5.9. Fish was caught on the winch but we were using winch and overheads. No dollies to be seen and the sounder showed a ledge packed with fish. Few good snapper, but very hard to get past the big sambos. Can only pull so many double headers of those at 200m before you throw the towel in. Ledge was about 300m from the fad. Caught a few cod before very nice on the plate. 100cm maximum size didnt make much sence, at least they saw the light.
I'd say the reg was intended to stop people catching big potato cod.
As recfishers started fishing deeper, there was an unintended conflict as they started bringing up the grey-barreds.
Once that started being an issue, they responded with the change, allowing people to keep GBs that are as good as dead, and unitentionally covered by the older regs.

Thanks for the tips Terboz
Thanks for the tips Terboz and Hooty. Think I will have to invest in a winch if double header sambo's is a chance, ouch.

Consider a good electric reel
Consider a good electric reel if its something you can see yourself doing on a regular basis. Diawa 1000 Tanacom or similar

I think fisheries realized it wasnt
stopping people fishing deep.
Lets hope they dont ban it altogether.
