We see plenty of Tuna out there , and plenty of Tuna off the west end at Rotto , don't go past it with out a spread of pushers out or you will miss out big time.
was out @ the FADS a couple of weeks ago in a comp...heaps of small tuna (stripeys and southern bluefin) all round the 2-4kg mark, a couple of dolly's (one went 5kg..good fish) and one 37kg YFT was caught...whata horse that thing was
the most productive FAD was the PGFC (perth game fishing club)..this fad had heeps of bait balls and dolphins around it and thats where the majority of the fish were caught. The 37kg YFT was caught on a rapala CD-18...so maybe the bigger fish are sitting underneath the bait school and wont touch the pushers..try drifting down a livey or a fresh fillet of smaller tuna down about 20m. all the smaller tuna were caught on pushers.
yeh tremble would be allright...i would try cd-18s or laser pro 190s...some thing that would get down about 3 or 4 metres
try drifting a livey down at the pgfc fad...dollies and big tuna for sure i reckon
if ya wanna have good troll i suggest this...go out to the hillarys FAD (furtherest north fad)then troll around that for a while, then leave the fad and troll along the trench (on a map u'll see all the contour line meeting up) this has a big drop off...then troll all the way to the pgfc FAD which is the 3rd fad starting from the most northen FAD (hyc) and troll round the pgfc for a while..which i reckon is the most productive fad then on the way in u can stop off for a jiggy jig as the containers r directly in from the pgfc fad..
i reckon trolling along those lines wood be ya best bet
p.s. yeh the pgfc fad is the one directly off the back of rotto...maybe bout 10mile or so...
You dont normally pick much up on the sounder out there, apart from maybe baitfish as the dollys normally shy away from the boat. Best is to drift past it and see if you cant see them.
The water temp was 22.5 up at 2 rocks on Sat and 23.5 at its warmest out from Mindarie. Saw losts of baitschools but nothing chasing or herding them. Must be tuna/mack time soon!
