Fads Today

With an Excellent forecast myself, the girl friend and my mate Paul headed out to the Fads. Firstly we tried the furuno FAD, there were several boats there but no fish so we then moved to the Hillarys Fad where we were greeted by quite a few dollies near the surface. They were very tentative. We managed to hook one for the day with others lost on mullies down deep. Other boats were in the area trolling, live baiting but with not much success. This one went just on 5KG which is pretty good for this time of year.

Sounds like the end...
...of last season. Bigger fish but hard to tempt. If they're that big now, we could be looking at some monsters by April/May! Top effort, mate! BTW, looks like a boy?

Nice catch Paul. Tried
Nice catch Paul.
Tried out today, I forget which fads (pgfc and furuno?). Saw one smallish dollie freejump, but none others seen. Couldnt drop bait down (even with a bit of bait) due to the damn mutton birds though.

nice
Nice dolly for the metro, its about the same size as the ones we are getting up here in Exmouth at the moment. Only problem is we are getting them as by catch on marlin gear instead of light spin sticks. :( You've done well to capture the colours before they disappeared, not the easiest to do with dollys.

19' should be fine I would
19' should be fine I would think. Obviously you need a reasonable day to get out there, but there were several boats that size (or even a little bit smaller) out there on Sunday.
Wait for March, April (and May perhaps if they're still out) as theres a lot nicer days (not harder than now) and bigger dollies.
Not sure what you meant in the third bit. What does a deckie have to do with the reel? (you should have no problems finding a deckie on these forums, just put up a message)

You would definatly have to
You would definatly have to plan your day in a 19ft. You seam to have ample fuel but just remember the thirds, third of your fuel to get out, third to get back and a third just in case. From hillarys if you go to the Hillarys Fad its about a 110km round trip. Thats not including your driftd at the fad, trolling or visiting other fads. I generally do about 200km in total for the day. I have seen boats out there smaller the yours.
As for weather you want a light to moderate easterly in the morning followed by a light to moderate sw to nw wind late in the afternoon, swell is not that important but anything under 3m is comforable for me. The Fads have their own weather pattern and the sea breeze will be in a lot quicker out there then in perth.
At the end of the day it also comes down to confidence, if your not then I would suggest going out with someone from the forums first on their boat to see whats its really like. As for gear I use as little as 2kg bream outfits for them.
Enjoy a good hard ...... Fish
