Failed to submit a "Marine Incident Report"

Had an interesting experience at Henderson yesterday, about 9:30am'ish, took my boat out for a test drive, leaving CPBA ramps, and keeping well to the right, close to the mole.
As I rounded the mole, another boat was coming straight for me.
I raised my right hand across my chest pointing to the left and indicating he turn. But no response, so I had to give way and turn to the port, otherwise we may/would have collided.
Now that entrance to the ramps must be 500meters wide, plenty of room for both of us.
Well we passed close by each other, giving pleasant greetings and suggesting he brush up on the boating rules.
I realise now I should have recorded details boat rego etc. I have just now looked at a "Marine incident report" and now have an idea of what's required. Will know better next time.

I think some people think they are driving on the road and stick to the right hand side.

All have skippers tickets and should know "the rules of the road" the ignorance displayed by boat owners at times is truly astounding

 That is such a common

That is such a common situation.

The way Colregs works though, in that situation Iana im more inclined to just pull up to a stop with my port side facing him.

Problem being that if you take action to port and he realises hes out of position and and takes the correct action suddeny and he collides with your stb side, its your word against his and could look like your in the wrong even though you werent.

You can probably compare it to driving on the road and facing a lone car coming at you on the wrong side. You swerve to the opposite side and he does also and hit headon and no other witness?

When Bob & I

launched from CPBA and going out where Iana stated, we've also seen the same and in some incidents so called Professional skippers taking out tugs, or commercial boats, you'd think they of all people would know the rules of the ocean for entering our exiting a opening to a marina.

I don't have a skippers ticket but do know the rules as being a deckie on the boat listening to the skipper sometimes yelling out to so called skippers what f...kwits they all were.

Seen some stupid skippers here in Leeman going on the wrong side of markers, we've both shock our heads and waited for the crunch.

Point taken Rob, but

I remember a part in a ww2 movie "Band of brothers" where a soldier says "even a bad decision is better than no decision".
I was well to the right and near the tip of the mole, while I contemplated going right, there are rocks under the surface as part of the base of the mole.
If I had stopped and turned to the right I would have headed straight for it.
We were too close and he had speed, time passes pretty quick in those instances.
It just made me realise that instead of going crook about it, I should have taken down the boat details.
And yes Roberta the boats fly through that area, particualy at the entrance to the harbour from the sea.

wasnt a criticism at all,

wasnt a criticism at all, just that pulling up to a stop gives a few more options, not the least of which is reduced damage.

As a general rule of thumb, if your confronted by a situation where a collision is pretty much inevitable, your best to take evasive action to starboard rather than port in pretty much all close quarters situations.

Sometimes not possible as in your case due to the mole though.
