Yesterday, I spent the afternoon chasing a few sooty grunter in the freshwater reaches of the Pioneer River in my kayak. I am yet to find a more relaxing way to spend a few hours than gracefully kayaking around the many pools and expanses of riffle habitat in my little “glide”, and casting at likely sooty haunts.
We only ended up with 3 little sootys in total but there will be plenty more around in the upcoming weeks as the water quickly warms up.

Was only a 3inch grub adam. Sootys are extremely aggressive and will nail a lure much bigger than that. They pack some serious punch in the fighting department as well
