FG knot for popping only?

I've become reasonably proficient at the FG knot so that I have less issues casting poppers before I hit Exmouth. Would it be feasible to use this knot in other applications (ie jigging, bottom bashing etc) or am I best to stick with a bimini and a GT/roll knot?. I haven't used the FG knot in anger so to speak, just lots of practising with old line.....

Also how does the FG knot compare to the PR knot for those that have compared? I tried a PR knot and it seemed like a lot more work for very little difference - or am I missing something (admittedly my bobbin skills are pretty ordinary).

Hi HuggyB, I find the PR

Hi HuggyB,
I find the PR knot alot easier to tie and more consistent in getting a really tight knot than the FG. With a bobbin its so easy, just spin the thing around and its really tight wraps, rather than using my fingers and having to manually tighten it.

I used to use the FG but found it a little bit slow and confusing when tying on the boat compared to the PR.

You can use both the FG and PR knot for any kind of leader-to-braid application. However, I still prefer the GT-to-bimini knot in situations like jigging where a bulky knot is not really a nuisance. This is simply because I find that's still the easiest and least fussy knot to tie, of the lot.

sorry to hijack but how long

sorry to hijack but how long does a pr knot need to be to be effective?

I've used the pr knot with good success, i not sure about strength compared to other knots but i use it mainly for it's castability, i do find that sometimes braid gets wrapped around a guide, sometimes the stripper sometimes the runners, is this because the knot hits a guide and slows down the line going through the guides?

I find the pr knot is much easier to tie once you get used to it as well. I use the pr knot for 30lb and above.
