Fibrelite Boats
Submitted by Mulie on Fri, 2012-06-22 08:31
Has any had any experience with these fibrelight boats? They seem to be made the same way as the Ocean Whaler with foam between the hull and one piece liner with a self draining deck. I'm looking at ordering a 6.25 (650kg) with a 115 Yammy.
Cheers
Stu

There is nothing new about
There is nothing new about foam between liner and hull, whilst BW didn't invent it, they're certainly one of the first to commercialise it and I guess OW just copied that, along with the BW hull design.
Just remember with FG boats, half the good ride comes from the weight, the other half from the hull. They tend to ride very high and bounce around a bit.

Yes Talking Horse, will be heading down in a couple of weeks to have a good look at them. I don't mind if they bounce around as long as they don't transfer that straight through to my spine.

Depends on if there is a big crunch at the end of the bounce. Big difference in how each different boat lands as it comes over each wave.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Yeah, and how do you think a light boat with a fairly wide beam fairs?
Not really trying to bag out the brand, I've been in one a few times and they are ok. They just ride fairly high and get blown around a bit, and they're a bit bouncy. Great if you need a cheap tow or whatever though.

Light weight is one of their main selling points I reckon Till. My '91 20ft Bertram was quite heavy and turned like the QE2 at low speed when crabbing etc and was a pain in the arse to pull out of the water on the sand due to its 1300kg hull but was as stable as all getout. I never felt uncomfortable in her and she handled a large following sea with alacrity. Obviously the Fibrelite won't ride like the Bertram, but you can't have every thing. I just want to avoid the bone jarring ride that plate allies dish out without sacrificing being able to beach launch or tow on the beach. I also like the Ocean Whaler, but you seem too close to the water.
