Fiji 70kg Yellowfin
Headed out for a day trip with Freedive Fiji on Saturday after hearing about the report of massive YFT being caught over the last few weeks on the coral coast. Within the first hour of trolling we were onto a beast, the first run was just incredible. We were extremely lucky to land it as it was foul hooked behind the head. It took 3 of us an hour each to boat, we were basically pulling the fish in sideways being foul hooked, so lucky the hook held. It was a massive team effort to land it. I was the last on the rod for those typical tuna circles at the boat, few tense moments. I definately didnt want to be the one to mess it up after such a brutal battle. Was stoked to be involved in the capture.
The day wasnt to end there, once we located this massive bait ball it was on for the rest of the afternoon. We ended up with the days tally going 1 YFT around 70kg, 3 YFT around 15-20kg, 2 YFT 5kg mark, 9 solid mahi mahi. Including a mahi on stickbait. Not bad going given we battled one fish for 3hrs.
If anyone is over in Fiji anytime in the near future and looking for an extra number on a trip hit us up with a pm. Im here until Jan next year. Pretty keen to get out for a Kadavu/Ono trip real soon.

Sweet catch
Hey Chuditch
I am gonna be staying on Mololo island in Fiji early September for a week. Is this near you and could you recommend any charters from the island? Or do you need to go from the mainland?
Cheers Timmo

I haven't ventured to the Mamanucas Islands yet, so I have no idea of charters. I would suggest contact the Denarau Game Fishing Club (just google their contact), that is their backyard. All the charter operators in that area will be members of the club. When you contact them might be best to let them know your budget. You can pay upwards of Au$3000.00 a day for the big game boats.

Great fish mate - love the look of that bait ball!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Awesome
That flock of birds looks like a Kalbarri truckload from back in the day. Used to be some good YFT up there as well way back when.

Daughters Wedding
Will be heading to Mana Island for my daughters wedding in June. Will be there for 5 days so plenty of time for a fish. Can't wait to get stuck in to some big fish.
