filleting knife storage tip

On a recent trip up to Gnaraloo one of the guys kept all his filleting knives in a pvc tube similar to a rod tube but a smaller version about 40cm long with a screw on cap he was able to keep 4 different filleting knives plus a cleaver and a steel in this thought this was a even better idea than the good old knife wraps plus only a few bucks to make

Wouldnt the knifes rattle around together and probably chip or dull your knife?

Not long after I got married, all the near worn out slaughtering knives from work used to be in the second drawer for carving meat or such, every time the missus nicked a finger away went the offending knife in the bin, now she complains if they are not shave sharp

I use PVC

Mon, 2014-06-09 19:41

I use PVC tube for the knives kicking around in the boat and for those stored in my shed, but one knife per tube with the tube just big enough to hold the knife and with rag stuffed in the end. 40 or 50mm tube fits most knives I use. I don't bother with screw caps though. I use the standard PVC caps with one glued and one not. They won't come off.

But I just use a sheath. Usually the one that came with the knife. Incredibly, it works really well.

Just bought a new set on ebay. 4 knives in a canvas roll from a guy who does them in NT. He sells the canvas rolls by themselves and they're reasonably priced.
