Finally got myself a snapper

I finally caught myself a snapper after putting in many many hours over the last 2 months. Until last night I have seen snapper caught from the boat next to me, I've snapped braid when I had a good run because I'd lost the liner from the top tip and didn't know it to countless runs and bights that didn't connect. Then last night as I was cubing up some mulie's one of my rods took off on a blistering run, I grabbed the rod and could feel the head shakes and tightened the drag as it was probably abit lighter than I realised, the fish put up a good fight it was going really hard got him to the surface and was stoked to get the net under it first go, I finally got my first inshore snapper. Fished for another 40 mins but no more runs but was absolutely stoked. Fish went 70cm.

Nice reward for the time spent. I remember how stoked I was with my first inshore snapper. I couldn't wipe the smile from my face for a few days. Bet you're the same :)

I saw the posts on Facebook I almost went to the D9 but thought the weather was too good so went to my normal area, probably would have caught more if I did go there but very happy to finally catch one and get a feed for the family.

Yep went to the D9 on

Sat, 2020-08-15 08:27

Yep went to the D9 on Thursday afternoon/evening. Counted 50 plus boats anchored there. Cruised around the outside watching lines getting tangled with other lines- not for us either.

Moved on, tried somewhere else as well.

I don't think we will be bothered with the D9 again.

Nice snapper you got there, and I still remember catching first ever Snapper with the help of a fellow Fishwrecked member ,still puts a smile on my face.

I've found the big ones have

I've found the big ones have mushy flesh and ordinary to eat while the smaller ones are quite good. I'm not sure about the sustainability of Cockburn sound as it looks like easy pickings for some. The sound is great for Squid & other species though.

good catch

make sure you have a nice ice slurry going it will drop the temprature of the fih and keep the flesh in good nick and makes it easier to fillet. dont make the mistake of using lumps of ice as these will bruise those good eatings napper fillets.
