Finders keepers?

Real slow day freedive spearfishing today out wide. On the way home decide to stop in on a trusty spot on the FFB. I notice an algae covered rope floating off the top of the reef. I swim over and follow it down into the reef and notice a plastic cray pot wedged in place. I breath up and make my way down and pull it out and notice a bunch of feelers inside. I swum it over to the boat and pull out 4 legal crays including 2 jumbo's!

Nice find but if fisheries were around you would get done for touching someone elses pot might want to keep this to yourself next time did the pot have any id engraved on it? I know old Pete lost a few of his pots on ffb

Agreed...

...even though there were no floats on it, and regardless of whether there was any other form of ID on the pot, it's still a no-no to pull it...the correct procedure is to report it to fisheries. Although 90% of us would've done the same thing!

Actually I did find a old pot

Fri, 2014-02-28 22:06

Actually I did find a old pot last year no rope attached to it brought it to the surface saw a id number on it phoned fisheries while still on the water and advised them I mentioned I would bring it to the ramp on my way back in  they rang me back 2 hours later and said that the owner of the pot was deceased and that they could pick the pot up or if it was in useable condition I was welcome to keep it

turns out pot had been lost 6 years earlier the good old plastics certaily outlast the wooden ones lol

Saw this on FB, and I reckon you're well within your rights to take the Crays and the pot.

No gear id and a cut rope, you did exactly what everyone else would have done.

I did loose a few pots out that way (placky ones) but can tell that's not one of mine because of the bait holders
