first gun. mirage guns

hi guys i'm new on here. i have been spearing for a about 5 weeks now and loving it i have been using a hand spear and have got some nice fish with it. i am looking to get my first gun, i'm thinking a gun of around 1m for hunting reef fish in fairly shallow water. question#1 railgun or speargun. question #2 i see bcf have the mirage range of guns and has anyone had any experience with them. question #3 would they be alright for a first gun and would they last a while or would it be better to get a different brand of gun? budget is around $250 might be able to stretch it a bit more. any input would be great:)

Mate buy yourself a Rob Allen Sparid 1100. This gun will do you for all sorts of fishing and will last. Should fit your budget too.

Look into a phantom I think

Look into a phantom I think that's what they are called. Good starters gun on a budget it will also last, or sea hornet but I think they have shut up shop.

Alright sorry you will pick up a RA Scorpia for under $300 and a Sparid for $400. If you have the extra cash these guns will last you along time and have stood the test of time.

Dont buy mirage!!

Better off buying a second hand gun from the manufacturers below, in no order:

Rob Allen

Freedivers

Aimrite

Beuchat

Riffe

Edge

Cressi

notorious is 100% correct, though second hand is sometimes hard to come by.

rabitech

omer

salvimar

beuchat

all have good guns also. Id be getting a 1.1-1.2 railgun, load it with two 16mm and you should be away. personally i dont really like ra but for your price range there probably you best bet, otherwise cressi do some copycat guns without the price premium of ra could also be an option. all the best with finding somthing.

might have enough for the sparid:) but will keep an eye out for a second hand gun from the brands suggested. will stay clear of mirage guns.

would you buy a gun online from places like amazon...prices are so much cheaper. but worried that if i did order one that it may get damaged in shipping:( decisions, decisions, decisions. thanks for the advice guys

 good advice will steer clear

good advice will steer clear of air guns. they were not relay on my list because of stories of them failing and losing power at depth.

was doing some reading today and one brand of gun that kept coming up was mako guns. reviews reckon there good value for money? or would it be better to get a rob allen or a phantom. thanks for the advice guys invaluable :)

I just got the RA Sniper Railgun 1.0m. Fantastic gun, awesome for shallow reef diving. Bluewater had them on special for $396 just before xmas, too cheap to pass up.
