First metro tiger
First and hopefully not last metro tiger, sent out a balloon lastnight and had my line rubbed through even with a 3m leader. Quick trip home to make another trace and had my bait 350-400m out an hour later.
Had a run about an hour later but couldn't tell whether or not it was just the wind pulling the balloon or if I was on. Decided to reel in to check the bait when with about 100m of line still out I finally knew I was on! 40 minutes of her taking a 100m's and me getting it back only for her to go on run after run and she was finally at the beach.
Stuck the rod in the rod tube and ran down into the surf to grab her and get her onto the beach, few quick photo's before walking her into the surf where she swam away strong. Length was roughly 2m nose to tip.
*If the other guys who were down there and those that know could not mention the location that'd great, really dont want it getting crowded when ever there's an easterly.
Thanks
Brett

beauty of a shark!
beauty of a shark!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Well, after having a pretty
Well, after having a pretty reasonable sized shark on last night for 45 minutes and taking many hundreds of meters of line before it rubbed through the leader, I have a lot more respect for beach fishos who manage to land big sharks.
Congrads and good stuff on the release.

Thanks guys they're
Thanks guys they're definitely an awesome looking shark so happy to have landed one, can't stop looking at the photo's!
It does look a bit bigger in the photo's than it was but I'm sticking with my 2m's (to tail tip) as a good conservative estimate, it may have been more but it wouldn't have been less.
Time to stock up on some circle hooks keen to get another this week!

220lb wire to 5m's of 200lb
220lb wire to 5m's of 200lb mono, going to up that to 400lb wire and mono next time just to be safe.
Was a double J hook rig but will only be using a single circle from now on, XXXl mullet for bait.
Cheers

Leader
Apparently they use line trimmer cable as leader in the USA. Cheap from Bunnings and a lot tougher than mono I should think. Not tried it yet myself though.
