First outing whiting bonanza

We had been waiting for the right weather to take our first boat out on a proper trip and Saturday looked the goods.  A later than desired start due to swimming lessons for the kids and a slight hangover for the skipper who definitely wasn't the skipper the night before.  All the safety gear was purchased the week before and we loaded up with a variety of bait, snacks, painkillers (for the head) and beverages (for the head).  We headed out from Hillarys to our family whiting spot, conditions were beautiful and the boys and wife were happy to arrive at the destination.  After only a couple of minutes we hooked up to our first fish and continued from there.  A smallish shark (less than a metre) followed up one of the whiting and apart from a couple of wrasse, flathead (undersized) and a scaley mackerel we ended up with 22 whiting, some nice fat ones amongst the bag.  The eldest boy was very relaxed and pulled in his first solo fish, followed by four more and the youngest boy was assisted to pull in a couple of his own.  All in all a very successful trip out and back.  Am loving the new boat and looking forward to getting out as often as possible to find ground and get some decent fish on board.

Thanks to all the members that offered advice and tips in the lead up to this.  Will continue to provide updates and reports as often as possible.

I think you summed up what it is all about, a day with the kids that will make them sleep the night through. A day that they will be talking about for years, congrats.

Nuthin better than when the forecast is spot on, the fam has a good day out and most important , you nail the target species. I love a feed of fat whiting, a few quick drifts in the 20s out there will yeild a good feed, and this time of year, the possible encounter with whales. Had a good mornin squiddin with my boy near little island today, always quality time spent on the water with em. Buyin a boat is buyin a great lifestyle for you and your family

A thoroughly enjoyable day out.  Little fella crashed out on the way in and the fish provided lunch the next day for extended family as well.

Stoked with the result.
