First time fishing shark bay.

 Hi guys

bout to plan a trip to shark bay, usually go to exmouth but want to change it up and try the fishing out of shark bay. Anyone have any tips or local knowledge that would help. I'm taking my 23.5 boston whaler conquest and want to do a bit of both game and bottom fishing, where are the best areas to troll and bottom fish? Also things to watch out for in shark bay. Cheers

Head out to Turtle

Head out to Turtle bay....cape inscription. it's a reasonably long trip. sometimes we fished in deeper water but for bottom fishing you can anchor and burley in relatively shallow water. have had times around sundown where the pinkies come in in force. they start small and by the end of the session it's one after the other 100cm plus.

watch out for the Dugongs while travelling.

D_d_001 when did you last

D_d_001 when did you last fish Turtle Bay ?

We were ther last May/June and although the fishing was hot, the sharks were hotter !

Found that for each fish we managed to get in the boat, we would loose numerous others to sharks along with shit loads of terminal tackle.

We never had this problem on previous trips.

We did much better last year fishing the Steep Point area in 70/80 metres.

Inside we managed some good fish at both the Bent Pin and Bar Flats.

Whether you are able to fish the Bent Pin is entirely up the the tide/currents. If the water is racing you won't keep you baits/palstics near the bottom.

Monkey Mia can also be productive at times, so worth a go.

Good luck !

It seems the sharks are

It seems the sharks are taking over everywhere north.

Sadly it's been a while since I've fished Turtle bay and hopefully the sharks are only in some areas/seasonal (wishful thinking)

We also fished the 60-100m ish mark at Steep point (still a fair hike but once through the channel you don't have to go far out to get that deep !) No probs with bagging out there.

However fished all around the west of Bernier and Dorre Island mid last year and didn't have a problem with sharks at all.

Heading up there on the 4

Mon, 2015-03-09 12:52

Heading up there on the 4 April and can't wait. The shallows is defently were we have had most of our success in 6 metres off water, big coral lumps.

also as we would launch we were pretty much putting a lure out from the last channel marker and were always picking up acouple of school macks.
