first try with soft plastics

Well I got myself some sp's and was going to give it a good crack.Headed out at 7:30 from Two Rocks and first stop back of the three mile .Jody was using the bait and Jesse and I were on the softies.Well not a lot was happening for the first hour or so Jody was cleaning up on wrase and Jesse did get a skippy. So we headed out a little deeper .Jesse was First to hook up to a little dhuie on a white snapback,Jody next with a dhu of around 660mm .Next drop and Jesse was on again, then jody .Yes I was fishing but not getting a touch .We moved around a few shallow spots and thing went quiet.Jody still managed to pick up the odd fish but the plastics wern't doing to well .I changed colour a few times but the fish weren't coming near my line .I stuck it out and was rewarded with a tiny little dhu at the end of the day .End result Jody 5 dhuies heaps of wrase 3 sambos and a bb. Jesse and I soft plastics 4 dhuies 2 sargent baker and a skippy . Fun day but was getting a little boring towards the end.One dhuie Kept all others were released in good condition only one needing the release weight .

It's good that they worked for you first time out. What sort of depth were you fishing Paul?

Yer its hard to stay invisable .I don't have a lot of trouble with other boats .Anyways when I head up to exmouth they will all be Jodys spots then and she can worry about it.Shit she will need a bigger boat to get out to them.

Sure - but try jigging

Sure - but try jigging too!

I know /other/ people catch fish on plastics, but I seem to do a lot better on jigs than I do on plastics.

At least you got fish Paul. Probably a good thing you didn't land a 20kg fish, you'd think it was all too easy.

Keep at it Paul, 4 dhuies

Mon, 2010-08-30 08:11

Keep at it Paul, 4 dhuies (altho not huge) is a great start! Try some larger plastics too, 6-7 inch ones. I feel like bigger plastics entice bigger fish personally. You'll definately find a lot of fish will hit them on the drop, it's always exciting the first lift after letting it drop back down... hook up!?

I can't believe you'd go to the dark side!!!!

Next, you'll be ordering chai decaf peppermint tea and asking what to wear at the Mardi Gra.....or "does my bum look big in this?"

Joking!!!!

Good work mate plastics are the go for Dhu's and yes placcys get hit on the drop more often than not but wait till you get a solid hit on the jig nearly rips the rod out ya hands, great fun.

well done paul, next trip up

Mon, 2010-08-30 16:04

well done paul, next trip up to Tweo rocks i will test out the plastics.

Geez theres some good signs of healthy numbers of young Dhu's around at the moment. Its got to make you wonder if the enforced use of release weights, and new bag limits is helping doesnt it?
