Submitted by Cotty_CoralBayWA on Thu, 2011-08-11 23:01
I just might be opening a traditional style fish and chip shop in Coral Bay some time soon, all going to plan. I have noticed quite a few members make their way up here quite often, so what do you guys think?????
What kind of things would you like to see in the shop???? Open to any ideas.
I was also looking at offering freezer space to rent in the shop. Anyone be intrested in in this if it was at the right price????

I would think that could be a good idea.... I will be there for the first time in 2 weeks and we are camping so fresh local fish and chips for dinner would have been a top idea....
Good luck with the plans... oh and as for suggestions I went to a gourmet chippy in Sydney once and got tempura veg (brocolli, carrot, asparagus etc) with my fish rather than fries.... I loved it....
Cheers Winta...

Go there a few times
Not as much as the old days due to commercialisation, but then thats progress for you.
For sure us Kcity crew would be interested, as Exxy and Coral bay is our Margaret River and Rotto. Dash down for the weekend.
As Brucesta said Fresh local seafood, but I am aware it isnt always as easy to get as it used to be, with most fisherman having their catches pre-consined to a company. But I am sure that the Exxy bunch will look after that. We get the fish truck up here and it is all (mostly) freshish local fish. Some of the non fish seafood come from all over, like mussels, oysters etc, but the fish has a local flavour. Light batter like a tempura style. Yum.

I loved the fresh
fish and chips caught locally from the pro in Leeman it wasn't cheap think $14 for snapper/chips (his wife cooked the fish and think they are now at the Sportsmens Club Thurs., to Sat nights), the snapper was very tastey, they also cooked bbq chicken, made a good cappacino and you could also eat in. So must agree with some of the comments on here. Locally caught fish and chips.
I also love the fish and chip shop in Jurien (next to the Chemist) they make a lovely fish and chips salad platter for $16. It had a nice piece of fish (batter was like crumbed very light) chips (can order no chips) salad, cheese, tomato, beetroot, raw onion, potato salad and coleslaw, it was worth the money. I don't mind paying a bit extra for good quality local fish.
Like the idea also for tampura vegetables, prawns sound nice as well. Sushi isn't hard to make and that would be nice as well.
Are you trying to keep prices pretty well down, as once upon a time fish and chips was a cheap meal but now getting beyond most people to buy for tea. Fish and chips for us is becoming a luxury. If we are ever in Coral Bay, yes would pop and buy a good feed of fish/chips. A very good mayo is the Japanese one (think its called kewpie), I just about would put it on ice-cream at the moment, this mayo goes very well will seafood, chips and of course sushi hahaha Also noticed at the resturant at AQWA they had nice little pots of sweet chilli, bbq, tomato, mayo etc sauces to buy instead of those tiny little things you squeeze and get everywhere except where you want it to go for 20cents. Home made pies, pasties, sausage rolls always goes done for punters as well.
Must also have fresh lemons (I know they are dear) for fish/seafood.
Bloody hell I've written a epic, sorry hahaah

I love Coral Bay, but one
I love Coral Bay, but one year we were at the restaraunt at Bayview, can't remember what its called, and I asked what the fish of the day was. They told us it was Nile Perch!! I nearly choked on my garlic bread... I had the chichen that night
I'll second the previous comments, keep the fish that you cook local stuff.

Here's an idea....
Would you entertain the idea of cooking some fish that a customer had caught that day and brought in to you?
Obviously, it would have to be filleted...but maybe something you might consider...wouldn't get much fresher than that.
Same goes for the freezer space....freshly caught fish, filleted, stored in your freezer and cooked to order.
Oh yes, I'm coming back to Coral Bay soon so I look forward to your shop being up and running, even if it's only for some fresh chips to go with my bbq fish

We did that last time in Coral Bay, took our catch to Finns Cafe and they cooked it up for us, to perfection.

I love to buy fish and
I love to buy fish and chips.
I realise fish is no longer a cheap meal, but some fishnchip shops charge WAY too much and only provide small portions AND SUPPLY RUBBISH.
The Fish Shack in Albany is a classic example, loverly product,VERY POPULAR,VERY EXPENSIVE,SMALL SERVE.
I still get a feed there every time I visit Albany, great quality local catch, you dont get much better in the way of fishnchips, their product is ALWAYS excellent.
Try to keep your prices as good as you can,I realise staff and product isnt cheap.
