Fish id

Hi guys just after some of your thoughts. A mate of mine is away up Exmouth way with his wife. They caught and id'd this fish as a dark tail snapper. When I was having a look through some pics I had my doubts as to if it was a dark tail. I know the paddle tail are caught a bit higher up the coast but to me it looks closer to one of them which your not meant to eat with that ciguatoxin carrier. Just after your opinions on what you think.

But Im sure that's a dark coloured mangrove jack.
Ciguatera non existent in WA (so far) so you can eat the prime risk fish in WA like Chinaman and Red bass.

"It does not and has not happened in WA. If a case has been reported it is usually a tourist who got it in so far Fiji, and mild.
There has been 2 cases in the last few years in Australia, both from Fiji.
Never a reported true case from WA, and extremely rare in NT.

See initially when I saw the pic I said it had looked like a jack but they were outside the reef which seemed strange in my opinion. Yeah I hadn't thought there were many/ or any cases of the toxins here but just looking through the new id fish app I sort of thought it looked like the saddle tail. All good. Cheers.

moses sea perch?
I've always thought they were Moses sea Perch. It's a bit darker than normal and a good size as well.
Not 100%, just a thought...
