Common from the mid-west north, will stray as far south as Perth. Small species rarely seen above a kilo, usually smaller. Look similar to spangled off some kinds of bottom, but stress-reaction bars are a dead giveaway, spangleds don't do that. Bloody bait-stealing nuisance off Kalbarri if you are bottom bashing, you need a tough bait big enough to choke a horse to survive them.

But unless you have a good photo of the lines sometimes these NW snappers are hard to ID. Could be blue spot,grassy aswell

This shows it quite clearly, the fish above also has the brown bar from the eye to the mouth, had no idea they got to 3kg.
