deffinately a western blue
deffinately a western blue devil, and a big one at that! used to have a small one in a fishtank, like 5cm long.

You see heaps of them
When you dive near any sort of reef. They are usually swimming in pairs and nearly always on the bottom.

due to lots of down time at work atm, I read through 99% of the posts and I have never seen an id for these fish.... well glad to hear it's a big 'n' and the colours were prety cool... and he went back safe and sound... I will keep an eye out for them next time diving.... Thanks for the replys.....

they are a protected
they are a protected species.....cant eat them or keep them in any way... hope you threw it back

as far as i am aware they
as far as i am aware they are NOT protected, however you need to get a big one like yours to have a feed and by experience they taste great . have kept a couple in the past but will throw them all back now

There is an eastern states relative thats protected, can't say I've noticed anything about the WA ones though.
