Caught this on friday night on fresh cuttle - was pretty yellow/golden - thought it was a soapie at first, though the tail looked all wrong:
Was caught about 2km offshore in 10m of water close to reef

Have seen heaps of them when diving this year- only used to see them inside caves, but have noticed them swimming around this year.

Sand bass for sure
Or False barra. Bloody things are dead stupid and never would survive if they were good to eat. Around Rotto scuba diving they would swim into you by accident. Also caught one all the way up here in Point sampson, and was sure it was a baby barra, but wrong!!
