Pity though that it seems to be treated more seriously than drunk driving, granny bashing, mugging and break and enter (at least for the first 20 offences)

absolutely agree. think the 7K is about right.

a while ago I had a guy force his way into a house I was at.(not mine) (was high on alcohol and prob meth.) try to extort money, he assaulted me. went on to smash up the next house.

Police did a great job caught him. I took time off work to pick him out of photo line up and make a statement. Great job police...built a tight prosecution.

went to court found guilty and then the judge FAILED !!!
sentenced him to ....nothing !. don't do it again. no fine no pay for damages.

We are all fishos here and hate ppl doing the wrong thing in that department but in the scheme of things it's not a major crime.

If this 67 year old got a 7k fine for fishing related offences what are ppl's opinions of what sort of punishment the above deserves !

ummmm rant over

yep, while I hate this sort

yep, while I hate this sort of thing mostly because it appears to be a habitual offender who simply went out and did it again (if thats true), I think some penalties are out of proportion with general standards meted out for other crimes which are WAY more serious, affect more people in many ways.
You'd be unlucky to get a $7K fine for a 2nd or 3rd drink driving offence where people could get killed, or a one punch unprovoked assault.

totally agree with you rob & dd above

the penalty for other offences are not nearly enough to fit the crime , mush more serious offences get off way to lightly

this bloke deserves what he got imo

I watched this guy get caught. We were also at Grey this weekend and we had got back earlier in the day.

He got sprung - fisheries nabbed him, although here's the kicker.

When spoken to by another resident, he said he had the undersized fish on board (+1 sized), then caught a bigger model. Kept the small, plus the other one, and the large one and came back in.

After they left, he went back out and caught his bag limit - again.

He was out every day. Smash, grab, repeat.

Small ~5.6m aluminum cat - plastered with BAMBAM on the side. Uses a HDS5 and two cheapo overhead combos.

Named and shamed. Repeat offender.

Pathetic

Fri, 2015-05-29 19:32

IMO should have been $70000 (not $7000) including seizure of his boat.

Obviously been doing shit like that for a long time and has a blatant disreguard for the regs.

Start throwing the book at these fools and it 'may' stop some others from doing the same.

They need to triple the fine.

Mon, 2015-06-15 08:03

They need to triple the fine. make it really really hard for them. it's about time gov grew a pair an really nailed these pigs. like the scum whm kill undersise at Ascott jetty for sake of it. if they dont have bottle to jail people that. At least give them fines that mean something. I get sick of bleeding hearts that cry foul when these poor little vegimites are so misunderstood. it isnt their fault after all. The fish just made them catch so many.....

An people think Comm Fisherman are bad... HA!

i go walking in claremont

Thu, 2015-06-18 17:39

i go walking in claremont a lot, and most nights when the weather is good theres quite a few groups of people on the jetty catching undersize fish and crabs

i suppose fisheries must go there at times, but people are doing it so often, it doesnt seem to deter them

i saw one group taking turns to load up their car boot, and then keep going back on the jetty

ive called fisheries in the past, but they were never able to come that night, so its good to hear that at least this guy got caught
