 They were down there Sunday

Mon, 2015-11-16 13:19

They were down there Sunday morning too at the ramp checking guys as they come back in. The guy who spoke to us was nice and friendly and we had a good chat. Seems the whites are slowly starting to trickle out, I keep getting smashed by sea lice tho which is a bit annoying.

Good to see them taking things further and having a presence out on the water, good work by fisheries!

Wouldnt it be better not to

Wouldnt it be better not to warn people?
At least that way the people doing the wrong thing dont know about it and they get caught.
By putting it on the net that fisheries are watching its hindering them catching people in the act.

Good to see Fisheries on the water

Mon, 2015-11-16 21:14

I haven't put my pots in yet, however it's good to know that DoF are being active on the water and taking note of who is pulling what.
With the new regs allowing duel licencing of pots it could make it a bit hard for compliance officers keeping their eyes on who is pulling what pots.

Agree, it's good to see the fisheries on the water and I'm sure the new regulations does make it a bit harder for them but if a boat pulls more than six cray pots, it's a bit of a give away.  Good on them for making themselves seen on the water and trying to stop potential poaching of pots.

Had fisheries check us the other day for the first time and showed him our dozen whiting and a flounder in my esky. Nice young fella but I found it strange he didn't get up into the boat and check all (or at least some) of my compartments or maybe I just have a trustworthy face

 Licence holder still has to

Tue, 2015-11-17 07:11

Licence holder still has to be on board to pull the pot.  It just means that if one isnt available the other can pull the pot.  We have fifo workers on my boat with one working 2 on 1 off.  Works well when he is away on site and the other is in town.  (They both have their id on two pots).

 No need to change floats.

Tue, 2015-11-17 11:47

No need to change floats.  Can have up to two ids on the one pot.  No more than two pots with the same id and no more than six pots per boat.

On my boat my two pots have my id only because i am always on board

Another licence holder has his id because he is generally always available

The other two pots have two ids on them of the fifo guys but only one has to be on board to enable us to pull them.
