Fishing gear on flights

Hey guys was just wondering for those that have travelled how u transport your reels on international flights. Are you allowed to put them in your carry on specifically with the braid already on them?

Thanks in advance

 International lines , forget

International lines , forget it they will confiscate them. Pack with bubble wrap and put in a Tupperware in the middle of your bag. Insurance and take photos, and check as soon as you can from the airport checkout if the lock as been tampered or opened.

there was a good idea in the travel mag use TSA locks for American travel and use normal locks for everywhere else.

Reels OK but no line

Wed, 2018-05-02 10:00

I've travelled nationally and internationally with fish gear.  Reels are OK to carry on to avoid damage, but they cannot be spooled with line.

Only thing is they are heavy, depending on what it is, so I generally pack them into my checked bags, well protected as noted above.

Yeah but you have to get through the security checks with it first. That’s where I had my problems at Port hedland and perth.

I have had good results with

I have had good results with telling them before hand I am flying with sport equipment- they dont like diving gear or fishing gear but racing/mountain  bikes and golf gear  is no issue

they even give u and extra allowance for free _ well not the budget mobs

AMazing the amount of fishig gear that u Pack in a golf bag most carriers allow 20kg extra for

i take the spool off reels- check spools with braid /line and i keep my stellas in my carry on

make sure i dont have any hooks or jigs in your carry on i have carried numerous hardbody lures in carry on with only split rings on and then just buy trebles on the far side or in check baggage

even to Barrow and Wheatstone ;p

And be sure to get there

And be sure to get there early enough to return to check-in and put it in the hold - it is always a risk taking anything out of the ordinary on a flight. Anything anyone on here says is worth jack if the person you deal with decides you might hijack a plane with some fishing line.
