fishing today with pingers
I really doubt it but was any one off fishwrecked fishing in a 6.5 shark cat about 30 k west of garden island. Had been fishing one of my favrorite spots this afternoon hadnt seen a boat all day then just before we were about 2 leave we saw a boat north of us heading in our dirrection my mate joked around and said pingers , as they were about 3 km away from us i didnt think anything of it. Five minutes later they were cruising up to us probably about fiffty meteres away. I gave them the wanker wave and told them 2 fark off they obviously didnt hear it as they gave me a friendly wave they prob thought i was being friendly. Oh well i thought maybe they are going to there spot which is close by. Then they slowed right down and the skipper was plotting in my possition and then they took off. Now to me that is just bad fishing behaviour. Only had the boat for six weeks and finding it really hard to find ground but i never have and ever will ping someone elses hard work. Oh i lie cause as we were leaving i went out of my way to where they were fishing I drove within twenty meters of them almost chopped there lines stopped the boat marked there spot gave them a wave and said thanks for your spot guys. It looked pretty good on the sounder thanks guys.
Next time i have someone ping me i will be following them around all day and see how they like it. Might get some good ground from it 2 bring it on pinngers

Yeah it sux...
but it's everyones ocean and you just have to live with it. Some people really do need a lesson in common courtesy though. I know mates that have turned up to their favorite spot and had someone else sitting right on it - just by chance.

Ease up Buddy
Hey Redballs, sounds like you have a gripe that might be better sorted out off line.
I've fished a lot with Ryan over the last three years and believe me when I say that I haven't ever seen him 'ping' anyone. He has more spots of his own than he knows what to do with; certainly doesn't need to take anyone elses. As for 'giving spots away' - I don't see him doing that too often and only to close friends, definately not to the general public who pass through the door of his shop.

Then again you could have been there for hours catching nothing and they just wasted the fuel comming over. Happens to me all the time an i'm not on any particular spot, just looking for ground. Some people also like the company of other boats near by, makes em feel safe. Use to remember beach fishing, if you caught somthing and others wern't, you would have peope standing on your sholders even know there was 1K of beach to work on.

worse!
Yo Bigger, not good mate but yes as Zen said it happens all the time and getting worse!
I went out yesterday & did a catch & release day in shallow water which was a nice break from the deepwater stuff.Caught this Dhufish (caught on jig & was released estimated 13-14kg) i had a boat come straight up behind me/right on my transom and marked my spot & took off!
I'm fishing out there 2-3 days a week and despite having a rediculous amount of my own spots i like finding more/new spots via recon. Pitty others dont like to do those same hard yards!

Dhu release!
It was shallow water Roberta and i was using my light driftbaiting outfit so no barotrauma issues bar on the surface where he pushed his stomach out a bit. The Dhu went down on its own accord and no need for my release weight with that fish!
I'll only do a simple release on very healthy fish if not its the release weight, in saying that if the fish is nackered (rare as i fish light/shallow for Dhu's) i'll keep it for a feed!
Cheers!

we've caught dhuie's (would have weighted in at 8kg's) in Leeman when Bob has started to gut them looked at the air bag and had healed pin hole or prick in them, must have been caught then pricked air bag then released, to be caught another day, us ha ha tasted nice too, caught in about 42 metres.

so what ........
if someone comes and marks a spot that you are fishing on.... did you pay for the exclusiveness of that spot..no! you didnt ..its the same when you drive your car and some1 cuts in front of you.....yeah its sucks and he's a dickhead but its reality and i think we all just need to get over it because regardless of wat you say it is still gonna happen.....if you spent as much time fishing you do whinging about other people apparently taking "your " spot in the water or on the road you'd probably catch a shit load more fish........ive been out in a boat fishin and had people come over....whether they marked the spot or not didnt bother me as i was enjoyin just bein out there......you dont see charter boat capt. cuttin sick when some1 comes near them when they have a boatload of fishers on a spot so why should it be any diff. for the small boat capt. as for people supposedly coming back to the the spot (after you left it) and raping and pillaging is besides the point because look at the situation we are in at the mo. putting bans in place to let fishstocks recover.....and thats not because people pinged your spot...its because we fish so bloody much........so why dont we just stick to puttin up pics of decent catches or askin questions to better our fishing experiences..............

2nd bit to it
i dont think anyone can say that in there life that theyve never done anything wrong like pinging a spot.........youve obviously been somewhere ( like a groyne, jetty or beach and seen people catchin fish)and thought to youself .... mmmm looks like a good spot , might have to try around here! only to go back at a later date and fish it........just my opinion cause im guilty of it too........(whether landbased or out in the huge ocean) we have the luxury of fishin in it and like i said before its not exclusively yours so regardless of wat is said or done it is always going to happen..................

i dont have a boat.....
but ive been out with alot of other people and if some1 comes over...who cares....as for hard work... i would hardly call enjoyin ya self out on the ocean hard work...maybe time consuming but not hard by any means............and as for seein some1 catch fish in a spot (whether lb or in the ocean) you cant say you havent gone back to the same area at a later date,.......every1 would be guilty of that sometime in their life.... my point was actually that it dont matter wat you say or do it is going to happen regardless..........

true so true
we've gone out from Leeman Bob heading for his spot, as we are about half a mile away Bob's starts cursing somebody is on my spot so we just divert to another spot, hate pingers though we had them, but nothing you can do about it. Friends went over to another friend fishing boats together yakking, wife (our friend) got bored, put her line down and pulled up a 15kg dhuie, other friend not happy at all was the talk of the caravan park for quite awhile.

not everyone is looking at
not everyone is looking at pinging spots.
The last few times i have been out there have been boats close to spots i had marked previously, and as usual i drive over the spot looking at the sounder to see if ther eis any action, if it is quiet i move to the next spot.
Im sure others do this aswell.
Not saying these guys didnt just ping your spot, but yeah! :)
