Fishwrecked comp @ exmouth 2010
Submitted by HuggyB on Mon, 2009-07-06 19:32
Whats the general concensus, is this going to be a yearly thing, or was it a once off?
I enjoyed the comp this year, but I think if we start the ball rolling a bit earlier this time round then maybe it could be a little more organised? (thats if it is a going concern)
Thoughts?

I think it sould be end of
I think it sould be end of June, as a few struggled with fish as the water temp seemed a little high for the bottom species,

end of june would be better temp wise, we would be there depending on our new venture, would be good to make it an anual event

exy again
i would suggest the end of may early June then the long weekend could be picked up as well, this year was the first time in early may we have experienced such warm temps , the later you go of course you will end up missing days out should the weather chop up, (my 20 cents)

My vote for Yearly
couln't make this years due to injury but I am interested nonetheless.
Can never guarentee the weather but there are always options available but May/June sound good or August.
If it goes annual then I suggest an organising committee to spread the workload evenly instead of just a few.
Is two days enough?

Yes to a yearly comp(Exmouth
Yes to a yearly comp(Exmouth was great)
but how about different place each year ie-:
kallbarri
Dunsborough
albany
Dongara
Jurin bay
Shark bay
carnarvon
gearldton
this way more people can make it as a weekend trip
different place every year

yes you forgot Leeman, the Caravan Park isn't 5 star but if you book early enough, we'd probably book the whole park out ha ha. For some people its a very long drive to Exxie.

Adam said he didn't have a spare bed
but did note that you are a very considerate sleeping partner Gully. Soft hands and very quiet as you dont snore. His comments about Ewans bedside behaviour were not so complimentary....

I can organise Exxy
I can organise the Exmouth one, if you guys are keen. I can put up dates and do a vote to see who wants when and go with the majority.
Comp's elsewhere are a little difficult for me, I can assist but can't do much and wont be able to make them with work commitments.

One should think about the tides for next years comp, weather it be May,June or July make sure it is around the full or preferably the new moon,

If it is Exxy I would be in
Only 6 hrs from Kcity towing the boat. I think the idea of a fishing comp is great everywhere, but Exxy is such a Mecca that everyone would like to go to, even us boys and girls from up this way.

Exxy 2010
Yep i agree exxy 2010 sounds great. We were lucky enough to be there this year when the motley crew rolled into town. Managed to sneak in under the radar & hav a few bevies with some of them at the lighthouse caravan park & enjoyed talkin to them, a nice bunch of people. It would be great Adam if you could get the ball rolling for next year, i for one with my skipper will be most interested in it. Perhaps, as a suggestion, it could incorporate the june long weekend. That way the comp could be spread over 3 days instead of 2 allowing for possible unfriendly weather. Or finish lunch time on the monday culminating in a barby/presentation evening on the last nite. Like i said just a thought. No matter what happens like i said i will be keen as to participate. Deckie.
Cheers & Stay safe

Im definately in for Exxy next year. As for the river comp I might be wrong it might have just been a Fishwrecked day out rather than a comp. My bad

dates
Can people put foward the dates which best suits them for next years comp so I can put them into a poll.
I will definately be up in Exmouth next year so should be able to run it without a problem. Let me know guys so we can start getting it moving. The only thing I will have potential conflict with is the Barra Nationals or work, but will hopefully be able to get the time off with early notice.
Cheers,
Adam

Open house?
Ads I thought you said it was an open house next year?
Pitch the tents out the back, Ozzy can park his motorhome out the front, swags in the dining room and lounge room, two on two couches, 4 more in the spare rooms, might squeeze another in your big ol' bed - could fit the whole crew in! Fishwrecked Party Weekend at Adam's house!! Oops, Renee's house... ;-)
And Huggy - what can you do with 3 in a bed? gotta fight for every cm...

EXMOUTH 2010
I will suggest the following dates to start it of.
May Sat 8th through to Sat 22nd May
The first week there are neap tides and the high tide for the 1st day starts at 7.30 am and goes through to 11,25 am on the first week the second week the high tides start at 12.10 pm through to 5 pm on the second Saturday , which allows the high tide fishing period to be carried out easily through both weeks , the first week 14th is the new moon , we find there are more pelagics on the surface going up the new moon, three days after the new moon the bottom fish are more active, following the new moon you move into the spring tides until tuesday 18 and return to neap tides, another period would be saturday 5th June , the monday 7th is a pub holiday , there are neap tides but the high tide is later in the day 4.50 pm , the new moon is on the Sat 12 th june and the high tide is now at 10.17 am which means getting out on the water earlier compared to May period.

we found this year when
we were there for the comp the new moon fished a lot better for bottom fish and there were mackys any place you went then the bottom fish slowed up as the moon got fuller mind you we still caught plenty

one way or another
One way or another if I choose a date someone is going to get pissed off as they will have to miss out. I will put up a poll for the month and the majority will decide. Personally, I found that the run out tide fished better than the high and for those that said there werent any fish in May, you were fishing in the wrong area at the wrong time. If you want proof, I will post a bag photo if I have too.
