Floreat Drain
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2008-01-31 11:27
Went for a quick fish at Floreat Drain before work this morning. Beautiful morning and quite a few other anglers were taking advantage of the weather. Caught and released a few small tailor (really small) and a few others were doing the same.
Could be worth an afternoon fish (when hopefully the bigger fish will come in withe the seabreeze) for anyonme chasing Metro tailor at the moment.
All the best, Colin Hay

Small Tailor
Yes we are chasing tailor localy ( Rockingham waters ), haven't caught a sized one yet, I've been at it all week, off to try again tonight at another spot, heard it was good.
I think the schools are quiet large from what we have been catching, seems to be heaps of fishos catching them too localy.
Got a photo of how small they have been.

ditto
same here tommy had massive runs of choppers the other night, kept 1 nice one of 38.5cm, but yeah 90% are tiny in the rocko area atm. At least they are fun to catch.

There were lots at Floreat too
I was getting hit as soon as my bait hit the water. Unfortunately they were all small, but I am sure that the bigger ones would come in on the higher evening tide and with a bit of shop in the water.
It is very tempting to toss out a (legal size of course) live one. There must be something there eating them.

Isnt it legal to use undersize fish for bait?

I am pretty sure
I agree with what your saying, but a few posts on Fishwrecked have suggested that that is not the case and you can only use legal sized tailor as bait. Adam would probably be the best to answer the question.

Yes
Yes, you are right. It is illegal to use any fish which is undersize as bait.

Tailor as bait
yes only size tailor can be used as bait, works well for mulloway, was out fished by my daughter last night, she caught two tailor off the Kwinana beach both were just under size. off for another fish tonight at PK, bringing down the big guns this time.

Let us know
How'd you go Karl? Fished Long Point Thursday night, and we caught heaps of undersize tailor, only 1 keeper out of about 30 odd. They seemed to be clustered densely really close to shore, and were taking squid pieces from bottom rigs as well as baitcasted mulies. Baitcasted some gars that I caught from Kwinana jetty, but nothing touched them.
