Free trip to Exmouth

Hi all

I'm lucky enough to be spending a few months in Exmouth from the start of April. The trouble is I'm going to be towing my caravan up but want the boat up there too. I've come up with 3 possible solutions:

1. Does anyone own/ work for/know a truck company who does the run I can throw the boat on? It doesn't even have to be to Exmouth. I can come to Carnarvon etc to pick up.

2. If anyone's driving up in late March/ early April (ie Gamex) and not towing a boat, I'll chuck a few hundred bucks their way for fuel if they tow mine. It's a 15' fibreglass centre console with a single axle trailer. Tows really easily with a low profile.

3. Tow the van up, turn around and come back for the boat. Not my preferred solution but might be my only option.

Can anyone help? If you know someone heading up or someone at a truck company it'd be a huge help.
Thanks
Tim

Yep I'll be up there then but just trying to sort the boat first. Otherwise might be landbased.

big dilemma

Sat, 2009-03-14 22:03

Sorry I cant help, but it is classic timing though -

we are going up to Exmouth in 3 weeks and were going to hire a caravan to tow up.

today we cancelled the hire of the caravan so we can bring our jetski up. I've rigged it up with some rod holders for some fishing/ trolling and will also be using it for some wakeboarding and maybe to tow into a few waves on the reef.

the "dear wife" actually came up with the idea to buy a tent for the grand we were going to spend hiring the van so i could bring the ski...

So I know the dilemma of deciding what to bring.

But if you are up there for a few months you will definately want the boat up there.

McMahon Burnett Transport (Malaga, (08) 9249 3033) do regular runs to Exmouth, but I reckon it would be pretty exxy getting it up there. Getting it back might be cheaper cos they would not normally have a full load coming back.

Otherwise sometimes the removalists can tow the boat behind their trucks, but I believe they are pretty painful when it comes to insurances, etc. I did check all this out when we moved up and back from Exmouth last year...

Lend me your boat for 2 weeks and I might tow it up for you. ;)

Good luck with it.

Its a pain in the Butt not being able to tow

our Van and Boat, so I came up with my own solution and stared building Larger than normal removeable MotorHome's so I can have reasonable accomodation when I get to where we are going and still tow a reasonable sized boat

very neat.

that would be very handy, especially being able to tow up a bigger boat like the mongrel.

We have been looking at all the option of getting a roof topper and fold up trailer, inflatable zodiac, fold-up, etc... but I think yours is the best of both worlds.

Know a guy who has a 4x4 truck with a caravan on skids which he can lift off the back so he can still tow a boat.

awesome Oz. Probably a little out of my budget though, plus I don't reckon the Navara could handle the lot. Definitely something to think about later if we get more serious about travelling.
Still looking into it guys so thanks for the help so far. Does anyone know of any trucks or companies that service Karratha? Maybe that's another option.
