freo got burnt
Submitted by petermac on Sun, 2013-09-01 21:59
I am not a freo supporter but the AFL has shafted them , earlier this year the AFL said Simmons stadium would never be a finals ground , all off a sudden it is . Andrew d has once again shown he is vic orientated time he went he has been the worst AFL ceo in history, give the job to brian cook from gelong or mike Fitzpatrick

How exactly did they get
How exactly did they get burnt? Geelong finished second and have every right to a home final. I reckon demetriou has done the right thing for once.

Agreed
finished higher on the ladder and won the right to host a final.
Although it would be more 'logical' to hold the game at Etihad due to higher seating capacity that's not one of Geelongs home grounds. Simmonds first choice, MCG alternate.
Either way after the arrogance they showed serving up that tripe against St Kilda they deserve to get flogged by Geelong to teach them a lesson.
Never take form for granted!

sydney
its interesting that if the ladder was slightly different and geelong were playing sydney then the game has to be played at etihad or the MCG.
so its not actually about having the home final at simmonds

Yeah good point Justin. Same
Yeah good point Justin. Same if B Lions were second would they gey a home final? But the AFL run the AFL so they can do what they please I suppose. It's private enterprise. But I actually reckon Geelong do deserve a home final. Freo would have got it if they'd finished second, just make it fair accross the board.

Here's hoping we play our home game the following week at Fremantle Oval. Andrew D needs to get out of the AFL because he can't see past his Vic biased. We were ready to go across to see this but now we aren't. Got a refund from Travel Lodge Docklands yesterday.
cheers

While we are on the subject
While we are on the subject of finals fixturing... can some of you pies supporters tell your president eddie 'colingwood is the centre of the universe' everywhere that finishing sixth entitles them to just about jack shit, and remind him that last year freo finished seventh and travelled three weeks in a row all with six day breaks... I've seen better trantrums by my nine year old. Eddie you are an irrelevant f..khead. go away!

Rules
Collingwood don't make the rules, the AFL do and if they can see that there is a chance to make hundreds of thousands of dollars by giving Collingwood preference to a less supported game , who can blame them.

My point is exactly that.
My point is exactly that. Collingwood DO NOT make the rules, so Eddie should just dry his eyes and toughen up. Would love to see Port knock them out this weekend, or Freo knock over Geelong and it all be irrelevant. Arrogant man just thinks he can dictate a match that we dont even know who is playing in it!

Just as well the Lions
Just as well the Lions didn't beat Geelong. We would have dropped to 4th and had to play Hawthorn at York Park next weekend.
cheers

So does that mean if Geelong
So does that mean if Geelong win this weekend they get a prelim at Simonds as well - being their home ground. If not then its a bit of a joke making freo go there for the first week of finals. Or if freo beat them will collingwood have to go there in the second week? I'm not a freo supporter but this seems a bit unfair they are the only team that will have to play a final there.

From the AFL website
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-29/cats-final-at-simonds
Although the AFL had previously ruled out the Cats' prospects of a home final it will now entertain the possibility, but only if Geelong is drawn to meet Fremantle in week one of the finals.
"Simonds Stadium is an option for a final, but only if it was a Geelong v Fremantle match and not for any other game," an AFL spokesperson said.
However if Hawthorn loses to the Sydney Swans the Cats may claim top spot and be drawn to play the Swans. The AFL would not consider playing that game at Simonds Stadium.
Simonds Stadium is available in all four timeslots and the AFL would be responsible for organising the game so it would have no impact on Geelong's preparation for the final.
The AFL would however need to consider travel arrangements for Fremantle and take into account the potential schedule of both clubs for the following week.
The use of Etihad Stadium remains a viable option, with the AFL contracted to play a final at the venue if more than two finals are played in Victoria in week one of the finals.
However if a final is not played at Etihad the AFL can compensate the venue – as it has in the past – by scheduling extra home and away games the following season.
There's 3 kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those that can't.

Im a west coaster
I think its unfair for freo to be the only team that has to make the extra journey. why wont they do it if sydney were matched up to the cats? Ok the cats deserve a home final but they are still getting it. I can remember 3 games this year that the cats were the home team and it was played at either the G or etihad. I think its just the vic's getting scared that freo will beat the cats like they did last year

I can see the
I can see the Vics/Geelongs/AFL's point though - take any advantage everywhere you can - especially Geelong, last thing they want to do is give the other WA team their first premiership! Thanks Geelong for our 2!

I'll go on the record here
I'll go on the record here and now that I am glad we are playing Geelong at Simmonds Stadium. If we played them anywhere else and beat them, we could never argue the "what if you had played them at simmonds... ". But playing Geelong at Simmonds, is an opportunity to show everyone how serious a contender Fremantle is for this year's flag and we shouldn't have to answer any criticism afterwards. I welcome the game being in Geelong. They've earnt that right. Bring it on, I say. Anyone, anywhere, anytime.

+1.
Geezus there are some whiney supporters around. It's finals, man up. Just be happy the team made it, should be happy to play a final in the local park for goodness sake.
Stuff Eddie Whinealot, he has had too many years expecting to get everything his way all of the time. It's kind of nice to see him upset, in fact I would like to see him upset more often. At least then you would know things are a little fairer. He's a total skirt IMO

Demetriu does Bombers and now FFC what a PRICK
Looks like WC has 4 or so retirements Kerr included [ old slow guys ]
This is a big plus you would think and they can now work with the younger guys.
WC will be a better unit for it, watch them come through latter next season.
Freo beat the Cats down there, that would just about make them flag favorites.
Big call and I don't think so. Whats wrong with just steady steady then come on hard in the coming rounds.

Seakem, I exclude you from this, because I dont believe it applies to you. But it was disappointing to see the eagles crowd thinning out in the last quarter when two if the premiership champions were retiring. Thought they could have hung around to see them off in style.

Like from me. Freos game
Like from me. Freos game against the saints was enjoyable purely for the send off they were trying to give kossie. .. I just wished that the camera could have caught ross sending a msg to the runner to tell someone to give him the fucking ball right in front of goal. That would have been a laugh.

Common occurrence.
WC have this happen a lot. WC supporters not the only ones to leave early, but do seem to do it in large numbers. For the record, I do stay to the very end - always.

Dees getting Roos?
You would have confidence in the future if that is the case Peter.
He is the pioneer of this new style of defensive football which is winning flags.
Pity the Eagles didn't chase him.
