$600? Shop lost 1000 in theft but makes 700 in sales so that's 300 loss. But then gives 300 change so that's a 600 loss
Edit: not rite, shop lost 1000 in stock regardless, but we don't know if the 300 change was teller error or the man just handed over 700 for a 400 purchase. I'm confusing myself now sorry for you guys having to read this nonsense haha

shop question
lost $1000, but then that became 300 plus 700 worth of stock.
So lost 300 plus 700 worth of stock (which shop owner would make a profit on , so to them less than 700, plus the 300)

If the man is...
.. actually a Tax inspector... then the shop probably lost around $5000.00

Shop markup is usually
Shop markup is usually around 100%, so the shop lost:
$300 + stock value
= $300 + ($700 / 2)
= $300 + $350
= $650
