Friday at last

I have been waiting patiently all week for Friday to come around so I can get down the beach and see what's out there. Barring a snow storm or tidal wave I'll get there this evening with a couple of my little monsters, they better not catch more than me Embarassed. With any luck I'll be able to upload a photo or two showing off our huge catch Wink.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a rod holder for the roof of the car? Unfortunately the car (a 7 seater Kia) does not have gutters so the old style are no good, and I'm not paying $144 for something to put on the roof bars. I've tried my local spare parts shop and BCF, any where else to try?

i think Ranger Outdoors were selling some of those suction rod-holders recently?

Or you could buy one of those portable surfboard racks from somewhere and use them too

Nothing at Ranger Joondalup

Fri, 2009-11-13 16:46

Called into Ranger Camping Joodalup, nothing there Cry. Accoding to the salesman anything to carry rods on cars are hard to find. I'll try the camping place at Balcatta next week when I leave work.

Here's hoping the fish are biting tonight!

Suction Cups

Fri, 2009-11-13 20:35

I would not use again without some sort of backstop in case one of the cups let go.  Some years ago I had the rear cup let go on a long trip but was fortunate enough that the rod didn't sustain any damage.  Only noticed when I pulled into a service station.  If the front cup had released it would have been a totally different ending.

I've used the suction

Fri, 2009-11-13 20:47

I've used the suction ones... drove from Albany all the way up into Arnhemland in the NT without them coming off.. only problem is they don't hold a lot of rods, well not when you have a beach rod or 2 in there.. they're fat!

I think it was Ranger

and they had some magnetic ones - they held strong as!

Not cheap, but I'd be way more confident having them than a suction cap system.
