Fuel gauge

 Hi

new to the site, just purchased my first cuddy cabin. It's a freedom escape 1750.

I have a lowrance HDS 12, I think gen 1. This has a fuel sensor attached which is my only form of fuel reading. I would like to install a normal fuel gauge for peace of mind. The fuel consumption feature on this is really great.

how hard are fuel gauges to install and what's the best type?

thanks guys

I'm doing the exact opposite as you as I find the fuel gauge to be useless

As JF said, better to know how much fuel is in the tank from empty and subtract the fuel burn. The Suzuki guage in my boat is accurate to less than a litre at the bowser.

 I use both.

I work on fuel burn figures and use the guage to keep an eye on any unusual fast drops in levels from possible leaks or the like.

Also once you get to know your guage and the readings I reckon mine is fairly accurate.

I use a Wema sender and guage and think they are a good unit.
