Is the container open or
Is the container open or ever been opened?
If so then it won't be any good by now. Over time oil that has been exposed to the atmosphere starts to oxidize.
I still think we as the consumer get led up the garden path a bit from oil companies though!
At the end of the day oil is oil and although I always opt for the best types available I am of the opinion that if you are doing your oil changes often enough then you can certainly get away with a significantly cheaper brand of oil.
What year is the outboard?
Later model engines need low ash oils otherwise check engine lights and buzzers will come on more often.
Do your oil and filter changes every 5-10 thousand klms (for cars that is) or every 75-100 hrs on the outboard and all should be sweet
