I run mine in auto (fishing) in anything under 50m. Whilst there are some improvement possible by tweaking manual settings in shallow water, it is not worth the hassle as the auto will give 95% of the result and very consistently.
In deep (plus 200m) manual gain to suit (until you just get light blue flecks in the background), 20% colour erase and decluttter and TVG to high. Auto no good in deep.
