Furuno Autopilot

Recently installed the latest Furuno autopilot on the Whaler. A big thanks to David and Rhyss at Taylor Marine for looking after me, and Ross at Ross's Mobile Marine for helping with the install and sorting out an  intermittant fault with the boat (that was not part of the autopilot install).

The NavPilot 300 is sweet, and as usual with Furuno gear, just works perfectly straight up. It fully integrated with my existing Garmin MFD's to provide full functionality with a simple NMEA2000 network. Just hit the waypoint you want to go to, hit Navigate, and sit back and let the boat do all the work. Happy days, Exxy here we come!

The NavPilot has Sabiki mode (which is why I got the Furuno AP), which holds the boat on a coarse in reverse, allowing you to hold on a spot while in reverse gear on idle. Gave it a quick go yesterday and I recon with a bit of gettign used to, it will be great.

 Kogan 17 inch screen hooked

Sat, 2018-04-07 13:46

Kogan 17 inch screen hooked to one of the Garmin 7410 XSV's, so I have a heads up display while driving. Not marine rated whatsoever, but the first one lasted nearly 2 years before it went on the Fritz after a VERY rough and wet trip home from out wide up at Exxy last year.

Another $140 from Kogan to replace the unit and back in business. I added a $100 Garmin remote control to control the Garmin as the Kogan screen is not touch screen, which works excellently on the run when rough. Compared with over $7000 for a 17 inch marine MFD, $340 investment makes for a very cheap and effective option.

Bloody good idea.

Do you still rate the Garmin? I read your earlier posts.

Ive been tossign up between that the Raymarine Axiomfor quite a while. I like the live charting (create your own bathymetric charts) feature they both have. That sounds like gold to me.
