FURUNO = DODGY AFTER SALES SERVICE????
I bought mine through challenge marine, I have treat it like gold, untill a white mark came up behind the screen, so took it back to the shop they sent it off for 5 weeks, only to tell me that i have scratched it behind the screen and it is going to cost me $500 to fix. i said dont worryabout it an what about all these scratches on the screen that were not there before? so the lad grabed a cloth and started to scrub the buggery out of the screen scrapeing all the protective coatin off and adding more scratches. Now after a couple times out a screw has fallen out of the back an the screen fogs up all the time. Is this the sort of back up service you get for $2500 worth of tool???? or are they atking the piss? has anyone else had this bullshit from furuno??? I am pissed right off with them..
Maybe look into a Lowrance RobN, maybe they provide fair back up service for your hard earned cash
cheers

Maybe Furuno...
...aren't to blame. Sounds like the dealer has dropped the ball on that one.
When I had dramas with my Lowrance I bypassed the local dealer (he wanted nothing to do with it..probably because I didn't buy it from him) and sent it straight to their HQ in Sydney. They were unable to fix the problem but sent me a "refurbished" replacement (the current model, equivalent to my 4 year old unit) at half the retail price. A fair deal I thought...it seems like a brand new sounder and I'm happy with the way it was handled.

Taylor Marine
Take it to Taylor Marine in Freo, they have their own technicians and are agents for Furuno gear. They used to do the work on the electrics on two boats I skippered and I never had a problem with their workmanship

Yes have to agree
thats where ours go for a service, and apparently most crayfishermen do the same. As far as your problem can't comment as Bob's hasn't had a problem (touch wood) since new and he bought it in 1997, still good as new.

Sounds similar to the problem I had with my new mobile. Sent off for servicing after the software crashed when I knocked it, and came back with a dodgy volume button 4 weeks later.
Can't blame the brand, lets say Nokia for example, but you got to worry about who they have contracted to do their repairs/servicing locally.
I'm with Auslobster. I would be looking through the manual you got with the unit and contacting the head office direct and explaining the issue. A big company like that wouldn't flinch at helping you out.
I needed new parts for a Stella once, and looked through the manual and found the Shimano HQ in Sydney which was Dunphy Sports, no questions asked, no cost, new parts out to me in 7-8days.
