I am just currently looking at doing a similar thing Cruisercraft, just now actually. i was looking at just a straight Furuno 627 fishfinder but my GPS i think is playing up aswell so i might need to get a combo. my question is what are the fish finders like on the combos??
link for the Furuno combo for sale, looks to be a good price:
Great unit, it has the same sounder as the FCV-627. At Sydney Boat Show Hunts Marine was selling them for $1,495 and that included the C-map chart and transom transducer. For an extra $100 you can get the C-Mao 4D fishing chart which has much more detailed countour lines.

not sure if the HDS7 would be a better option though?
