Weighed
Not sure on the details of the broadbill, heard that it was caught during the night but not much more than that. 173kg was the biggest fish weighed, sad, but yes, weighed. I had heard of fish upto 240kg being tagged and released thou, but of course, thats not on the lie detector and its a good thing too!

Not that i would do it
Not that i would do it myself (kill one intentionally) but i did hear that they slabbed it up and handed it out to everyone, including a mate of mine that competed and he said he was surprised how awsome it actually tasted

Yep
Think they had to slab it up, there seemed to be quite a murmuring from the crowd and the MC for the night made sure people knew that it was on offer. I stopped watching and went and got on the coldies instead, but it seemed like most of it was carted away in placcy bags for someone to eat, hopefully.

I also heard that the broady
I also heard that the broady the weighed in had a good chance of going to waste as they had it sitting in on the deck for quite a while, only speculation though

broady
I thought the broady was going to be kept and mounted. It had been caught at 4am that morning and by 8pm was looking a bit tired when it was hung up so not surprised if they decided to get a feed of it. I am pretty sure it was a women's record (i think it weighed in at 85kgs - not sure what LC).
There was a ~150kg marlin on the back deck of a boat there which was diced up and bagged for all to take. I remember hearing the MC saying that the broady would be 5 times better eating but it was going to be hung up on a wall somewhere, but still could have cut up after I left early.
I have some pics on my camera phone and will try find out how to upload them.

Yep
Your on the money Scott, I remember now. Might have been those few extra coldies which made the memory fade a bit. The broady was definately going to be taxidermied and mounted from what I remember hearing on the night. Ahh, its all starting to come back to me now. :)
