Garfish

I need some information on how and where to fish garfish, and any other info which will lead to me hooking a few. Don't seem to get many, and when I do, it's usually one or 2 only. Cheers.

Cleaned up last year with big gars... Just used a prawn dab net and scooped them up on a warm calm night in warnbro sound. They were just sitting in groups of 6 so just cruise over in the boat and would manage two every time :) then use a spotlight to find more, I took my brother out fishing the night before and saw plenty around so decided to try scooping for them & worked a treat!! . Had our quota in 40 minutes and was a good laugh. Then headed out for the first sized dhu for the boat :) no idea how to upload pics on a comment.

Sounds great. I am landbased as well, with no boat access I should mention.

 Focus around weedy/reefy

Focus around weedy/reefy areas, and get a burley trail going, then keep.your eyes peeled for them cruising on the surface normally in groups, a float with probs a meter or so of light flurocarbon a small hook with a small bit of white flesh will do the damage, i seen heaps at that reef off hillaries on my yak a few weeks back, so if you burley hard enough the should follow it in. Gotta love a feed of gars. Merry Christmas

Theyre suckers for burley and if they are close enough I just use an unweighted size 6 circle or size 12 long shank with a tiny bit of mulie fillet on ultralight gear. Let them take the bait for a bit an hook themselves then wind in slowly, otherwise under a float and wind slowly if theyre after the bait

I used to do okay at Cottesloe Groyne during the summer months, using the same setup as I would for herring

The Huts south of Bunbury, won't say much more than that on where this is but we use a scoop net and get between 5 and 10 in the net before putting them in the bucket.

Feb to March is the best time.
