Gibb River Road Journey (Pics)
Submitted by outdoinit on Thu, 2013-07-18 15:40
It has been approx 12 days since my last post and only because of no coverage.
But this time has not been wasted, as we have been driving, sightseeing, camping, setting drop nets, chucking lures and of course live baits.
Below is a few pics of the spoils on the Gibb River Road... Enjoy
Pesky lil Buggers..
Some very Nice "Cherry Bums" Cherabin
Couple of Hooters, managed 12 in total so made an excellent entre.. Yummo
and Last but not least, This bad boy was caught last night on a live bait, and it was the biggest 1 of 3 that I caught (70cm), 2 were released and 1 was filleted and released.. ;-) (Gotta to keep the crocs well feed and in good condition)

Nice Barra,
hanging to do the gibb river one day soon, Would have had great weather, how much further are you planning on travelling outdoinit? seems to be one big holiday this year!
Good to tick the Barra off the holiday list, just steaming back to broome from 18 days up the coast. Barra still firing nicely for July!

Thanks Reefmonkey
We are nearing the end of our trip, currently in Wyndham for overnight stay then off too Kununurra tomorrow to restock supplies then we head out to the Keep River for a week to chase some more Barra before we turn tail and head back home..
But after looking around today, I must say I would love to do the Berkley River run or even as far as the Drysdale river mouth and return via boat from Wyndham one day...
Will wait and see, may put this one down for 2015??

Hi Belly88, The only real hint is
chase the buggers at night time (Most Active time) we used layer pellets one night and some kidney the second night in the drop nets.

Love that trip
Have done the Gibb river trip a couple of times and one trip up to Kalumburu, every time it's been to quick. have to do it one more time before they make it into a highway for every man and his dog. Love the challenge of does rough roads and bush living.
The first fish might be a sooty grunter, get a lot of them in fresh water pools. Also get archer fish. but are generally smaller. Haven't heard of MJ's that far upstream.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

The first 2 pics are Sooty Grunters
caught in fresh water pools. We also done the Kalumburu, Mitchell Falls area on this trip and It looks as if they have canned the permit idea, did not require a permit to access areas like Old Pago Mission, Honeymoon Beach, McGowan Island etc.
But if you are thinking about going to places like Crystal Creek you will need to try and obtain a permit from DEC.

Yeah Lamby they were a good
size all right and tasted bloody beautiful..
We have just got back into Kununurra after a week out on the Keep River.
Didn't fish for Chearbin out there but can tell you there were heaps of Barra and some friggin Huge massive Crocs.
Caught some nice Barra and ended up only keeping 2 in total, will post a report later.. What a spot..
