Can you give us a little detail on line size, jig weight, depth etc? This is just the type of fishing that I am starting to concentrate on, havent had a lot of success yet but I am learning every trip.
We were fishing in 34m of water. The jig was 80g. The reel is loaded with 50lb.
Outfished 2 others using baits !!!! Hooked a large wrasse and didn't know it until a LARGE dhuie wanted it for lunch. But it made it about 15m off the bottom before spitting it out. On inspection the teeth marks on the wrasse were only a cm away from the second hook !!!!!!! BUGGER !!!! But couldn't be happier with the reel it handled the 7kg dhu EASILY !!!!
Thanks Staal, I assume that you got the fish on the drfit?
Over the weekend I got a couple of the "Scorpion" fish on the Ockta, they seem to love them, while drfiting but nothing else. We also anchored and burleyed in 35m for a while for no result except for a bloody great ray that had the Ockta stuck in one of its wings, that was a battle with the 30lb line but I got him up and cut the hook off.
I must say that over the last 6 months or so, the majority of fish in my boat have been taken on the jigs even though at least 50% of the lines in the water are baited. I am working up to going out and leaving the bait in the freezer, but haven't quite worked up the courange yet.
If I am on the boat with 1 other I would normally bait fish and have the jig on my 8' just drifting along with the boat doing all the work!!! This has done me well in the past. Also throw a tenticle on the jig as well just to sweaten it. If something is in for a nibble it may just be what makes it smash it. I only got a nibble nibble from an 11kg dhuie before he engulfed the jig !!!!
