GME Epirb- is this one any good.

Was reading a couple of posts bout Epirbs with better locating systems etc and it got me thinking about mine... This came with the boat and I figured it was a decent one, but after reading about the differences in GPS between models etc I thought I'd ask...
Mine is a gme 406 with 121 MHz homer... Does this have the good GPS that I've been reading about? It states that it is detected by global satellite system using cospas-sarsat, but is this the better system that is available? I've attached a couple pics.
I know it's an olderish model but if anyone could tell me if I need to upgrade it to something better, it'd be much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Which model is - MT400 ot MT406G
If MT406G - GPS is OK. What is the battery expiry date
We have found it is cheaper to buy a new unit than having to send of for new batthery.

With the non gps units its
With the non gps units its not so much about the distance as the response time.
Your local VMR will have a direction finder that works off the old 121 signal. These are used in the final stages of location.
The non gps unit usually take 2-3 passes of a satelite to tiangulate a coordinate. Canberra Coordination Centre will know there is an epirb but will be waiting for a more exact location.
With the gps unit they have a virtual immediate location and VMR group (or Water Police) can immediately respond to that location.
Registered EPIRBs make a huge difference as details can be checked with a simple phone call and details confirmed very quickly.
