Gnaraloo August 2017

Had my 1st trip to Gnaraloo back in August, great place, only got the boat out a couple of times. Hoping to get back up there again next year. Yellow fin tuna were thick, couldn’t get past them and the long tails to get a Mackie, finally had a double hook up of XXL mackies only to have them smashed by sharks 5m’s from the boat, heart breaking stuff! Fortunately they were the only sharkings for the trip. Had a few good blokes give me some great info and even some spots to try so a big thank you to them

Looks like you had a good trip, shame about the mackies though... I've been wanting to get up ther for a while now, how did your boat go? I'm interested as I've got the same boat by the looks... (mines a 2012 490 with Suzuki 80)...

Yeah the boat went well, mines a 2007 with a 70 and I’ve had it since new. They are good capable little boats, just gotta drive it to the conditions and you will be fine, the most we went out up there was about 20km’s, but I’ve taken mine to the fads a dozen times and usually fish 30km’s off Jurien bay in it. I found the beach launch/retrieve fairly easy with that size boat using a hilux to launch it, just drop the tyres a bit, lay a couple mats down under boat trailer tyres and creep out in low 4, don’t even think I spun the wheels. I just left the boat parked up in the car park at the launch spot the whole time, just took everything out. We camped at 3mile so it was much easier to do that then tow it back and forth all the time.

Yeah we thought so, nah we just picked them up on troll heading out to our fishing spot, they seemed to like the hard bodies over the skirts, had wire traces on too as we were hoping for a Mackie but the tuna still kept taking them.

Haha, yeah he soaked his foot in some hot soapy water while he drank a few stiff jacks and cokes, then just pushed the barb through, cut it off and pulled the hook back out the way it went in.

 Yeah for sure!

He knew that if he went to the hospital they were going to do the exact same thing, so he manned up and done it himself. Lucky he did too coz if I had to drive him back to Carnarvon to have it removed by a doctor, he never would of heard the end of it! Haha

Awesome looking trip

Thu, 2017-10-26 06:29

Got into some great fishing well done. Also nothing beats a campfire and drinks at the end of the day!

Just wondering about the rocket launcher rack. i found them on whitworths marine site and considering getting one. Are they sturdy enough to support the rods or do they swing around a bit. I want to run a bimini from it down to the windscreen, same as yours but mines a 530 freedom sport

They are ok, and mine is

Thu, 2017-10-26 17:30

They are ok, and mine is about 6years old now, but they are pretty flimsy mate, I only store rods up there while I’m trolling or fishing, when heading in or out at speed I take the rods out and lay them on deck. I think it would be fine with lighter rods but I’m also worried about them bouncing out as the small alley boat can be a bumpy ride.

No worries, thought as much.

No worries, thought as much. Might still give it a go down the track. Be alot sturdier than my current bimini with some rocket launchers u bolted to the back frame at least.

Cheers for the info mate
