Gold Coast Charters

Hey all,

I am going over to the Gold Coast visiting rellies in early March and wouldn't mind going on a day fishing charter.

Has anyone been out over there and have a charter mob they recommend?

Hey Mick,

I live on the Goldie at the moment and have been out on Hooker 1 charters a couple of times and have always got fish while alot of the bigger operators get regular zeros.  Only a smaller charter operator so does book out quickly just google em.  Try to stay away from some of the bigger guys some of them have up to 20 people on board and dont seem to catch much.  Or try www.australianfishingcharters.com.au and if you get really stuck send me a msg i should be able to take to a few landbased spots i know....

I'd suggest Fish the Deep

I'd suggest Fish the Deep with Matt Johnson, or head out with a few mates with John Gooding (Outlaw Charters - Moreton Bay; not a long drive from the Goldy).

I'd also suggest Smithy (Rob Smith) from South Queensland Fishing Charter Service (he can tow his boat anywhere for you).

The latter 2 are smaller vessels (760 Patriot & a 7m stabi craft). All very good operators that will get you onto fish. Rob Smith is ideal when it comes to bill fishing.

February is a tough time for bottom fish on the Goldy. The charters will look for macks (spots & bars) & troll for hoo & dollies & if interested, small blacks. There will be a few trag jew & squire on the shallower reefs - out wide will be too tough with the current.

Have fun!

theres a really good charter

theres a really good charter boat that works out of redcliffe called "shakara" i used to work on this boat and we always came home with good catches. ive worked on 2 other boats out of this area and they never seem to catch as much. shakara is more of a specialst boat, only takes 8 people out and the skipper knows a very productive cobia spot that works well this time of year.
