Good Day Off Hillarys

Well this report is my first and a few months old but work hs been flat out and I havent been gracing the forums as much as I would like... so appologies for the late posting. I have been on fishwrecked  for quite a while now and I absolutley love it... so thanks to everyone on here for making it an awesome place to chat and enjoy the stories and resources to help us all become better at the passtime we all love so much.

We started out off Hillarys at about 7:30 with a light S / SW  the swell was up slightly but all in all it was looking to be a good day out on the water bar the possibility of an early shower. We headed out to a few of our favoutirte spots that we have off Hillarys. We decided to go for a standard padanoster rig with a slight twist in that we were using a two hook configuration with a slightly smaller hook on the top. The bottom hook had our standard circle hook with skinned occy, squid combo with a lumo squid over the top and the top hook had a Berkley Gulp plastic shad in the green and red colour.

This was my first time trying this setup so I thought that it may take a bit ot tweaking but much  to my suprise it didnt need any at all... We had a good mate of ours come out on the boat for the day. He is not that much of a keen fisho but he was keen to come out and see what all the hype is about. We had been fishing for a bout 10 mins and our mate was sitting there like a sore thumb so we though it best to get him setup and fishing like we were (mistake  No1). As fate would have it I passed the rod to my mate while we rigged him up in the mean time he sates "Guys I think I've caught the bottom". Upon a closer look the bottom appeard to me moving at a great rate of knots and had his rod bent over a fair way, this wasnt no bottom this was a decent fish!!!!

As it turned out our mate got a few pointers on how to fight a fish from a boat as has he had never really done this sort of fishing before and he boated a nice Dhu .... Well We were stoked for him but at the same time spewing as that could have been me!!!! hahaha. As it turned out the Dhu was hooked on the plastic - it ignored the bait offering and totally smashed the plastic. You gotta love the plastics Laughing

As for the rest of the day ... well the Dhuie was the most decent fish of the day. We caught a few Wrasse, Cod and one blackass and most of the fish that were landed were caught on the plastic. It was great being out on the water and the day was just magic. It just goes to show that with a little bit of knowledge gained from reading these forums and my monthly fishing magazines that you need to experiment with the type of baits you use, and especially the way you present your baits when fishing. As proven anything can and usually does happen. Also don't hand your rod to your mate !!!

More reports to come !!

Thanks guys ...

Carl

keep your friend , although he took your fish he is also good luck... every boat has a good luck charm, just dont give him your rod. let the lazy bugger do up his own rigs.
