Good day out
Had a good day out with a friend of a friend today who is a relative fisho newby, but jeez he brought some luck to the boat. Went over the Rons and first drop resulted in 2 nice trout after about 30 seconds of being on the bottom, one about 65cm and the other 55cm. First drop and trout bag limit, ahh well, time to move on... We then headed to my next spot only a couple of km's away and had rankins taking the bait 20m off the bottom, along with a small red (size but released) and a couple of spango's (released). After half an hour of action the pickers moved in and with a tidy enough esky I decided it was time to troll. Another half an hour in and two dolphinfish jump into the spread and load up both rods, one I managed to release boatside and the other was released mid photo shoot (before the first pic could be taken - approx 5kg). Trolling a bit further I found an awesome lump in 50m and knew I would go back to it, not before a 10kg wahoo jumped on and bit through the line boatside (could have got the gaff into it but it was going to be released regardless) Back on the lump there was little action which was quite disappointing so it was time to troll again, with a couple of other game boats in the area I knew there was going to be action, first a little stripey tuna and once the spread was put out again a decent sail smashed a little sprocket I had out (great visual take). The sail went crazy for the first 5 minutes but I couldn't get any jump shots in time due to clearing the lines, he proceeded to come in rather easily for a nice grab, photo and release. We then set the spread one more time and gave it another 15 minutes only to have a wahoo snip the lucky lure and on that note, called it quits and were back at the ramp by 2pm. Happy days. :)
