Good day out in Esperance

Had a beaut day out yesterday as a deckie on a mate Kingys Noosa Cat. We left his place at around 0430 and after a bit of a drive, beach launched and headed east 8 miles, into a solid 2M swell and slight breeze. First mark was in 50m and looked promising with a big school on the sounder but we only managed several small nannies which all released well. We dont tend to keep any under 45cm as its just not worth it, much more meat on the larger ones. But I did nail a beaut big cuttlefish followed up with a nice pinky, which was what we really were after!

Then we made the call to check out another mark a little further on in 60m....good move..and we started catching big nannies 55-60cm and we were stoked!!  Triple hookups and Double headers were common and as soon as they started they just went off the bite and were into sambos and big BA. By then the swell and wind had dropped and we struggling to get a drift...pretty rare for Esperance!!

Back to the first spot on the way in to see if we could nail another pink...and first drop we had a double hookup both called for pinks....resulting in a big tangle and Kingy somehow loosing his whole rig when his coastlock opened up....copped some shit over that one!

All in all a bloody great day and I've got us another Espy FW member in Kingy after he reads this!!

I did have a kill shot for you guys but it may upset too many people.....lets just say we didnt even bag out but our families will have fish for a while.

Cheers Woody and Kingy

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
