Good service mechanic SOR

Hey Guys,

I know this has been asked quite a few times here but just chasing suggestions of a good boat mechanic for my annual service (South of the River).

Only bought the boat last year so this will be the first time I've had it serviced. It's a 2000ish 40hp mercury 2 stroke (about 320 hrs) and nothing wrong with it just want to make sure it'll get through another year of boating. The anode definetly needs replacing as it's pretty much gone but other than that I can't think of anything really. Would be great to get the whole boat and trailer inspected while it's there too (check grease in the trailer bearings etc).

Chivers marine is closest and they seemed really nice and helpful but their quote was a little over my budget so just hunting some less expensive options too before I go ahead with it.

Thanks

no such thing as a cheaper option.  less money less things get done. do inspection of bearing and other stuff yourself that should keep costs down abit as boat places charge $90/100 ph. just get the motor serviced .

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I completely agree that you get what you pay for, I just don't have the money at the moment for a complete extensive service and so trying to make a list of things that are needed. I will add the impeller on the list!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Get parts from the US online (half the price including postage) buy oils local, get a manual from ebay, watch a few youtube vids and do it yourself. Can't get cheaper than that plus you'll never pay someone ever again once you've done it once and realise how easy it actually is to do a yrly/ 100 hr service.

Is it really that easy if you've got not much knowledge of boat engines?
