GoPro on the boat

I just got a GoPro hero 4 to start takimg some footage on the boat when were out fishing. Wondering what would be the best way to mount it out there and any accessories I need or should get?

And also the best / easiest video editing software for someone completely new to it?

We will be running drop lines off Gero so hopefully I get some good footage... So far playing around with the camera im not very impressed with the quality, but maybe that all changes with editing.

Make sure your computer can play the video at high resolutions.Older ones will struggle.

I just use gopros studio package for editting as it is free.

960 or 1080 will give excellent results. Use the GoPro Studio software for editing, easy as compared to many editing suites. How fast is your computer? I used to use an old  2.4 mhz Celeron with 4Gb of RAM, and it struggled a bit. Now use an i5 with 8Gb of RAM< all the difference. Get a telescopic pole for under water boatside stuff, really adds a whole new dimension to your fishing. Head mounts are also good for action shots,or chest mounts, a fixed mount anywhwere on the boat I find rather limiting, IMO. Our pole gets the most use-it doesn't matter if it means some of the video is shot upside down, because you can flip it just by ticking a box in the Studio software. Check out some of my videos, these are all gopro,  Hero 3 Black, including the timelapse bits, edited in Studio.

Yeah I will get a pole but

Yeah I will get a pole but it wont get used as much as I like because im meant to be working and will need both hands unclipping the fish and pulling ballast over, sorting ropes etc.

Will tryr and find a mount that swivels or something.

Yer or buy the aftermarket wasabi batteries they hold more charge

also you can get a mount with a suction cap which allows you to put the thing dam near anywhere

Recommend "the claw" accessory

You can quickly mount it on any rail on the boat for some variation to the angles you shoot. You can get ones with short or long "bendy bits".... go for the longer one (about 25cm long). I didn't really get in to the gopro editing software, I prefer to use trakax. Have fun!

Only use

I pretty much only use the www.harveynorman.com.au/gopro-jaws-flex-clamp-camera-mount.html  these days. Can quickly be moved to and part of the boat you can grip on . I even clamp it to some trees and jetties in the river for different filming angles.

1080p and 60 fpsdepends on

Sun, 2015-11-15 17:55

1080p (is clear enough) and 60 fps - too high on definition and you lose the frame rate (makes it jumpy - particularly water when motoring - and slow mo's no good)

Mounts - depends on the boat - Jaws flex clamp or handle bar mount (mount mine on the rocket launcher), The stick on mounts are good for tinnies with no rails.

I use Cyberlink Power Director 12 for editing - takes a while to get used to any program
