Gracetown

Just joined the site - very impressed, seems to be a great outlet for all that time you can't spend fishing. After years of surfing the south west, i'm dead keen to do some bottom bouncin down that way before Xmas. Hope to stay in Gracetown.

Can anyone give me some rough guides as to where there may be some ground? Looking at the charts it seems to drop off pretty quick to 50m then to 100m only about 20km out. I guess the old adage of work the contours would be a start but any more specifics would be great.

Any guidance greatly appreciated guys,

Cheers,

wrassinator

Hey Connors - good mate.

Hey Connors - good mate. Thanks for this, it's a big ocean when yer starting out. I have a reasonable idea of where yer describing so thanks.

Iv'e got a 460 Quinny Dory - so a big freaking tinny that I have recently converted to Centre Console. Should get me out there without any worries on a reasonable day.

Just gotta find the ground and present something enticing and hopefully go from there. I'm sure if I can't hook anything decent, I will give the wrasse a nudge :-) Laughing

Cheers mate may see you out there some day.

Thanks Kaneo and

Thanks Kaneo and Feral.

Not too keen on the powerpole scenario Kaneo. Don't wanna give the "basic floatation" a workout thankyou very much. Bet you had to change the jocks when u got back to the ramp.Embarassed

Sounds like staying in relatively close in the 40-50's is the go. Could handle 4km out without a worry on the right day.

Sounds like your talking bout Willy creek Feral - thanks, I know where that one is.

Been surfing the Capes for years so know what you mean about swell/wind coming outta nowhere at times. If in doubt, the Dory won't be goin out - that's for sure.

Deffo not wanting to add to

Wed, 2008-12-03 07:27

Deffo not wanting to add to that tally mate.

The old Dory ain't too bad for me at the moment - a fairly sizey tinny. Went out 22km  @ Gnaraloo with some other boys in June - but the weather permitted with all day glass.

Got any other pointers for fishing around Gracie?

Cheers

If it is as flat as a pan cake and you can get in there. A mate and I fished it a we got 5 dhu's, harliquin, black ass, queen snapper. sambos and bluefin was unreal even got smoked when we started to troll. Spose everybody drives over the top we where fishin from a 13 footer with a portatable eagle sounder.

Wishin I was fishin and only 500k's to the water..

thanks Deegs - you mean

Wed, 2008-12-03 07:32

thanks Deegs - you mean South Point as in the wave South Point? It would have to be dead flat to fish in there - although from surfing it I know it does have a pretty deep channel running next to it out the back - before it gets into Huzzas.

I assume this is where you are talking? Were you on anchor or drift?
